Once eyeshadow had cemented its place as my favourite kind of makeup product, my next goal was to find a way to get it to stay on my eyelids without creasing! In the beginning of my makeup obsession, the formulas were not as advanced and I often required two or three products to ensure that at the end of an 8, 12-, or who-knows-how-many-hours in a day my eyeshadow would look as pristine as it did after application. My original routine, many years ago, involved an eye primer, a cream shadow base, and then powder eyeshadow. If I skipped any of these steps, within 4-6 hours… crease city! Thankfully eyeshadow formulas have improved, so while I can normally go with just an eye primer and either a cream or powder eyeshadow, these days the cream + powder combination works just as well without a primer!
The Surratt Prismatique Eyes fit exactly this product combination. Each product comes with a cream eyeshadow base, and a complementary shimmer powder eyeshadow. I chose to purchase this product in Neutral, which is a matte cream brown base – with my skin tone, this is just a shade darker than my natural eyelids, and a rose gold duo-chrome powder eyeshadow. All I had to read (and see) were the words ‘rose gold’ and ‘duo-chrome’ and before I knew it, the eyeshadow was on its way to me!
This is a very simple, quick easy look for me. The staying powder of the cream + powder eyeshadows was excllent – I wore this look for about 12 hours and there was no visible creasing when I took the eyeshadow off. The cream base has very good pigmentation when applied with a brush. The rose gold powder eyeshadow is more sheer, but the duochrome is very visible over the cream eyeshadow base. I also used a brush to apply the powder eyeshadow, but I think you could easily apply this on the go with your fingers. I chose a shimmery brown eyeshadow to use as a crease, but if you are just looking for a quick wash of colour, you could definitely skip this step!
The packaging on these eyeshadows is stellar – as you can see in the to picture, the cream eyeshadow is the bottom, and the powder eyeshadow swings on a hinge so you can look at both products side by side! The pots are quite shallow so the entire product is very compact (I actually misplaced this for a while because the product is so slim!).
The entire line of Surratt Prismatique Eyeshadows is available for purchase in Canada from Sephora. 10
