I am making an effort to blog again, and while I have tonnes of new product to talk about, I am also determined to finish posts I had queued up – so this is an oldie, but a good one, about products I still love!
Also please note, this post really REALLY makes me miss my short hair.
I am still in love with all forms of eye makeup as ever, but lately my heart has been owned by products that come in pencil format – they are just so convenient when one is in a rush! It took a long time for me to get used to the idea of using eyeliner pencils all over my lid, but the neutral colours in the Make Up For Ever Aqua XL Pencils were too gorgeous to restrict to a single line of colour!
I’ve had a lot of weddings to go to this past year, so I felt like these events would be the best test – after all, if my eye makeup was tear-proof, it was probably pretty life-proof as well!
The texture of these pencils are creamy, and they blend out well with a dense, fluffy eyeshadow brush, or your fingers. It’s best to smudge them out fast if you’re looking to wear them as a lid wash – once these pencils are set, they don’t budge! These are not fine-tipped pencils – I found if I wanted a very fine line it was easier to use a blush to pick up the colour and apply it to my lash line. They are traditional pencils (not twist up or automatic) so sharpening is definitely necessary if you want a precise point! As I mostly use the neutral colours as an all-over lid wish this was not an issue for me, but I did make sure to sharpen the turquoise and black colours when using them as a liner.
They are definitely waterproof eyeshadows. Back when these were released, MUFE Canada released promo shots and videos of the Canadian National Synchronized Swimming team wearing these during their competitions, and they did not budge! I tested this by showering with them on my eyes and also my hands (swatches) and the colours were just as vibrant after my shower. They do remove easily with an oil or bi-phase makeup remover.
I received these as a press sample from Make Up For Ever Canada. All opinions are my own.
Do you have a type of eyeshadow you prefer best? Since I wrote this post, I’ve actually moved back towards pressed powder eyeshadows, but the convenience of pencil format makes me want to pull these out again!
