Delicious Calgary

Testing out the posting function of the iPhone WordPress app now that I’ve moved the blog over!

The food scene Calgary is growing at a quick pace and I thought this post would be a good place to highlight my new favourite places for eats πŸ™‚

Yann Haute Patisserie on 4th St SW is my favourite bakery in the city! In addition to traditional French pastries they have a variety of fresh macarons (which are my latest love). The shop is beautiful!

Best window displays ever πŸ™‚

Next, my two favourite restaurants for full meals πŸ™‚

NOtaBLE the restaurant is a relatively new place in Bowness run by Michael Noble who Wikipedia tells me was the only Canadian to compete on the original Iron Chef. He was also the executive chef of the Earl’s chain of restaurants and Catch in Calgary. While I normally seek out restaurants on my own, I actually ‘discovered’ NOtaBLE thanks to my Mom (who is also experiencing a bit of restaurant renaissance herself). NOtaBLE specialises in local, seasonal food, and along with my dear Eva, we go every month mostly for the ‘Monthly Inspiration’ which is a burger.Β 20110919-231009.jpg

I’m not usually one to take pictures of food mid-consumption but the innards shot of this burger gives me happy memories πŸ™‚

Occasionally we manage to order things other than burgers. This was a roasted pork belly and chorizo risotto – so cheesy and fresh. Way better than most restaurant starters!

Our last visit to NOtaBLE allowed Eva and I to finally try one of their roast specials – lamb – which was amazing, but HUGE. I’d recommend sharing this so you can try more of the menu (like the monthly burger!).

I first visited CHAR|CUT with Sheila and Christine back in April but after that visit, I was completely hooked! Eva and I spent most of the summer going for their ‘Daily Lunch Specials’ which, or 15$ provide soup, a sandwich, fries and fresh cookies. All of the meats and breads are made in house, and everything we’ve had there has been fantastic in my opinion!

This was probably one of best daily specials I’ve had – pulled pork BBQ sandwich, chicken and white rice soup, parmesan fries, and chocolate chip cookies. Yum πŸ˜€

This post is making me hungry, so I’ll end it here! Next up: Calgary’s Food trucks!

  1. Oh my you’re from Calgary too?! Yay hello fellow Calgarian! I’ve never gone to NOtaBLE yet, but I have been to Yann Haute and tried the macarons! I didn’t really like them, but still it was an interesting experience~

    • Hello! NOtaBLE is nice as they have free parking. I actually enjoy Yann Haute Patisserie’s other baked goods more than their macarons – the best macarons I’ve had have been from M for Macaron but they are only open on weekends at Kingsland Farmer’s Market!
